Hi STEVE                  17th April 2007

Thanks for siging the guestbook, and I note your comments on Bruce being too low in the mix on some of the more noted Shadows numbers, I think a lot of the mixing was done at Abbey Road Studios in those days and those guys certainly know what they are doing when it comes to mixing records, - but if you consider that when the Shads were backing Cliff on numbers like "Lessons in Love - Livin Doll - Traveling Light" Hank's guitar was in the background until the solo, and Bruce made a fabulous prominent Rhythm.  As far as The Burns Era as it has now become known  - John Rostill took part in designing along with Jim Burns, the Shadows Bass and also Hank himself  had a lot of imput in the design of The Burns Marvin, I think it was when they were experimenting with all kinds of different sounds. What a fantastic guitar they came up with from Burns but they never Totally gave up on Fender, Hank said on the Final Tour, when asked why he kept changing his guitars - "Because I Can" was his reply, then went on to explain about the different gauge of strings, for different records.  Thanks for giving me something to do Steve, please keep looking in on us,

Regards Ruth.

Hello to  TONY EVANS,           17th Jan 2007.

Thanks for your question Tony, I asked John which guitar he preferes playing, and he said that the Burns Marvin was a beautiful guitar with a really authentic sound dating back to "The Burns Era" of The Shadows, he also said it was a wonderful guitar to play ! after all Hank designed it !. BUT, he does like the feel and tone

of his Strat, He tell's me you can get some Strat's that don't play too well, but this is a Custom Shop guitar, and it plays like a dream. There is something about the sound of a Fender, " He say's".

I hope that this answer's your question, please keep checking out the web site, as you will get to see the answer to everyones questions,

Regards Ruth.

Hi There,  RYAN  and MICK,                    Jan 17th 2007

I have two questions about the same thing, and that is what gauge strings do the Apaches use :-

These string gauge's must be important to you guitarist's out there, Well John Use's 10s on both guitars

He uses Ernie Ball John does not use any lighter strings than 10s and Dave use's 9s. he has said he is more comfortable with a lighter gauge string, Hope that has helped

Regards Ruth.
